New Family of Cryptocurrency Mining Malware Discovered

Cybersecurity researchers Trend Micro have discovered a new family of cryptocurrency mining malware. The malware uses numerous web-server exploits and brute-force attacks as well as a number of tactics to remain hidden. The malware downloads a Monero miner as its final payload. The researchers have called the malware family “BlackSquid”. The malware further has behaviour engrained to emphasize propagation. The discovery comes approximately a month after Microsoft reported greater incidence rates of cryptojacking in their 24th annual Security Intelligence Report.
