News has surfaced that electricity was stolen to fund bitcoin mining operations in the Chinese province of Heilongjiang. The electricity was reportedly stolen via cables laid through fish ponds to access the power of the largest oil field in the region. The news was originally brought to the attention of the public through the daily Chinese tabloid The Global Times. These reports come shortly after a Chinese grandmother was jailed for stealing electricity to power her bitcoin mining operations.
