Discussions have been taking place among the Zcash community regarding how much of the block reward will go to dev funding after the fourth major network upgrade (NU4) in October 2020. Sonya Mann (@sonyasupposedly), communications manager at the Zcash Foundation, has compiled a list of proposals for how the Zcash block reward will be split between miners and funding development. The initial plan was to transition to the block reward being fully contributed to miners after the first block subsidy halving which happens during NU4. However, strong arguments have been made that some fraction of the block reward continuing to fund development may better serve the future of the Zcash protocol. The forum thread has been an active area for the Zcash community to discuss competing proposals.
